ONTARIO, Calif.  – Sam Saghafi, PE, joined HNTB Corporation as principal engineer in the Inland Empire. He joined the Ontario office team and will play a major role in supporting the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority program management and construction management contract for the Interstate 10 Corridor Express Lanes project. Additionally, he will support the firm’s work with Caltrans District 8 and other transportation clients.

“I am pleased to welcome Sam to HNTB,” said Khalil Saba, HNTB Inland Empire office leader and vice president. “Sam’s remarkable accomplishments at Caltrans and his wide-ranging knowledge and extensive background in designing and delivering complex transportation infrastructure projects will strengthen HNTB’s capabilities in the region, and enable us to better serve our clients’ needs in the Inland Empire.”

Saghafi has 20 years of experience in civil engineering, specializing in transportation engineering, with an emphasis in roadway design. His experience includes roadway geometrics and interchange designs, design exception fact sheets, final contract documents and cost estimates for major highway projects. He also has experience as design oversight engineer at Caltrans District 8 during 10 years of state service.

Prior to joining HNTB, Saghafi was principal project engineer for another engineering firm. He led a team of design engineers to deliver multiple projects for Caltrans, City of Corona (California), Riverside County Transportation Commission, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority and other infrastructure agencies.

Saghafi holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from California State University, Los Angeles. He is a registered professional engineer in California.

HNTB is a leading infrastructure solutions firm in the U.S., with roots to the West since beginning work on Pasadena’s Arroyo Seco Bridge in 1914, the firm’s first year of operation, and has since been involved in some of the region’s most high-profile, complex infrastructure programs.

HNTB’s many signature infrastructure projects in Southern California include the Interstate 405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements project, the Tom Bradley International Terminal Expansion for Los Angeles World Airports, and the “Green Build” expansion at San Diego International Airport.

Currently, HNTB is providing design and engineering services for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project on behalf of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority; working with the City of Los Angeles to deliver final design and construction support services for the Sixth Street Viaduct over the Los Angeles River between downtown and Boyle Heights; and providing program management services for the SBCTA on the I-10 Express Lanes Improvement Project.
