Dewberry was recently recognized with a Grand Award for Engineering Excellence by the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers (FICE) for its work on the State Road (SR) 417/Boggy Creek Road interchange in Orange County, Florida, for the Central Florida Expressway Authority.

The project provided modifications to the existing Boggy Creek Road Interchange with SR 417, including third- and fourth-level ramps to provide direct connections between SR 417 and Orlando International Airport’s south access road. The project included the use of horizontally curved, precast concrete U-beams for the ramp bridges, a first for the state of Florida. Parsons served as subconsultant for two of the ramp bridges.

The FICE review committee based its selection on five criteria, including the original or innovative application of new or existing techniques; the amount of future value added to the engineering profession and perception by the public; social, economic, and sustainable design considerations; complexity; and ability to exceed client or owner needs. The innovative transportation project has also been featured in numerous national publications
