The Indiana Department of Transportation said it is again accepting applications for civil engineering scholarships of up to $3,125 per semester, and for governor’s summer internships available to college students, as it tries to help develop the future workforce.

INDOT’s scholarship program offers the $3,125 per semester, or $2,083 per trimester, for up to five years of post-secondary civil engineering education at universities in the state. Applications for the 2016-2017 school year must be postmarked by March 31.

To be eligible, students must be accepted or enrolled fulltime in one of Indiana’s Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology-certified civil engineering programs. Certified programs include those at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Purdue University, Purdue University Northwest, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Trine University, University of Evansville, University of Notre Dame and Valparaiso University.

INDOT said students may apply the scholarship funds to educational expenses, fees and books. In return, recipients agree to work for INDOT in a variety of fulltime, paid positions during their summer breaks and upon graduation. More program information is available here.

For 50 of the summer internships, which pay $11.30 a hour, INDOT is accepting resumes through Feb. 24 at its offices in Crawfordsville, Fort Wayne, Greenfield, Indianapolis, LaPorte, Seymour, Vincennes and West Lafayette.

The program requires interns to spend at least 50 percent of their time on a project that enhances college-level skills and abilities. Candidates must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one year of undergraduate education. Students who are graduating in May 2017 are eligible to apply.

Those who are accepted may pick a start and end date between May and August that best fits their academic schedules. More information is available here.
