The Victoria Division of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) named DealCorp’s Polaris 3083 as the winner of the Urban Renewal Award for Excellence 2016.

Cardno’s Stephen Warner Design Manager, and Rob Henry, Construction Manager contributed to this new mixed-use precinct located at the former Larundel site on Plenty Road in Bundoora, which  incorporates a retail town centre, apartments, townhouses, offices, retirement living opportunities and a community centre over a site area of approximately 11 hectares.

Working closely with the project architects, Clarke Hopkins Clarke, Cardno provided all civil, traffic and water engineering services for the public roads and authority services infrastructure required for the entire development. Retention of existing heritage buildings and indigenous trees has been a key feature of the development, which combined with state of the art sustainability measures throughout the development has seen Polaris 3083 awarded all six leafs of UDIA Envirodevelopment certification.

The master planning of the site, its attention to focus on corner style development and its linkages through pedestrian ways to the local oval and new rehabilitated building for a community centre, are a testimony to the architects and developers’ sensitivity to its historic context. Featuring medium density housing set around a vibrant village centre, the project has been dubbed the ‘Carlton of the North’. Up to 1100 townhouses and apartments will feature in the development when Polaris 3083 is fully completed. A difficult site where sensitive redevelopment has been achieved.
