Orlando, Florida – October 2016 – The community along with students and local city officials came out for the official groundbreaking ceremony held by Gilbane Building Company and the School District of Osceola.

The new high school campus will have a heavy emphasis on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math). The building is designed to serve up to 3,000 student stations and showcase their career and technical education programs as well.

“The planning and construction of our new state-of-the-art high school plays a critical role in the combined efforts to promote and support our students, as well as to further economic growth and development in Osceola County,” said Superintendent Dr. Debra Pace.  “The Osceola County School Board is committed to making this school a showcase for collaborative learning and the implementation of technology with spaces and equipment to support multiple college and career pathways, including sensor technology, biomedical sciences, and fine arts.”

Construction of the new $75 million high school will span multiples buildings. Features of the new protoype school include classrooms, an active learning media center, testing facilities, gymnasium, auditorium, administration, and cafeteria buildings.  In addition to the indoor learning environments, the campus promotes an outdoor environment where learning happens everywhere. Outdoor learning features spaces such as demonstration photovoltaic panels, learning gardens, and outdoor classrooms.

“This celebration marks the community’s commitment to advancing education for our local students,” said Robert Hayes, vice president, Gilbane Building Company. “We are looking forward to being part of the construction of this state-of-the-art facility. This facility with its collaborative learning environments will serve as the future model for the next generation of high schools.”

Designed by ShenkelShultz Architecture, the cost per student station for the new high school is well below the state average. The planned construction of the school will provide a substantial opportunity for the local economy and local construction jobs and is anticipated to be complete for the 2018-19 school year.
