Washington, DC – U.S. Reps. Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, along with Reps. Sam Graves (R-MO) and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, today released the following joint statement on the selection of the Advanced Transportation and Congestion Management Technologies Deployment (ATCMTD) program competitive grant award winners by the Department of Transportation:

“Innovations in technology are rapidly altering the way we view transportation from individual modes to a more comprehensive vision of integrated mobility.  Our communities need the tools necessary to prepare for a future where connected infrastructure and autonomous vehicles alter and improve the flow of traffic on existing roadways.  The FAST Act was designed to be forward looking, and we took advancements in technology into consideration when we drafted the bill.  The Advanced Transportation and Congestion Management Technologies Deployment Competitive Grants program is a result of that vision.  We congratulate the winners of this competitive grant program.”

The Advanced Transportation and Congestion Management Technologies Deployment competitive grants provide $60 million each fiscal year for projects that use technologies to address transportation and congestion challenges.  These technologies provide communities with a cost-effective tool to address current demands and support a future of connected and autonomous mobility.  The data provided by these projects will provide Congress with valuable real life feedback to help inform future policy decision making.  Congress created these competitive grants in the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, which was signed into law on Dec. 4, 2015.
