Michael Baker International Promotes Juan Contreras to Head Gulf Region

Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced  today the promotion of Juan Contreras, P.E., to director of the company’s Gulf Region. Michael Baker’s Gulf Region consists of New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Mr. Contreras has more than 30 years of experience in the design and management of transportation projects and most recently served as the office executive for Michael Baker’s Dallas operation. In his regional role he will be based in Dallas and oversee all engineering, business, marketing and financial operations for the region.

As director of the Gulf Region, Mr. Contreras will report to Michael Baker’s Chief Operating Officer, Brian Lutes.

During his career, Mr. Contreras has managed large design teams on urban reconstruction and new alignment projects for multi-level interchanges and tollways in high-congestion corridors requiring phased construction. A number of his projects have involved complex construction staging, structural widening, pavement salvage, noise walls, retaining walls, utility relocations, environmental permitting and railroad coordination. His experience encompasses a variety of materials and structural systems including CIP concrete, precast/pre-stressed concrete, CIP post-tensioned systems, steel and cable-stayed systems.

Mr. Contreras also has contributed his time to leadership roles in multiple professional organizations, including: the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and the Infrastructure Advancement Institute where he serves on the board of directors. Mr. Contreras also serves on the faculty advisory council for the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University.

Mr. Contreras is a registered professional engineer and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science degree in civil engineering (structures) from the University of Texas at Austin.
