The Detroit Metropolitan Airport’s Runway and Associated Taxiways Reconstruction project received the Envision rating system’s Silver Award from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. This airport is the 19th project to receive an Envision award since the program began.

The project involves reconstruction of the associated taxiway system, providing a safe connection for aircraft from the runway to the passenger terminals at the Detroit Metro Airport. In total, the project encompasses 6.5 miles of airfield pavement.

“From recycling materials, to use of low-energy lighting, and prudent stormwater management, we knew the runway reconstruction project would be an important element of the Airport Authority’s sustainability program,” said Airport Authority Director of Environment & Sustainability Bryan Wagoner.

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) welcomed more than 33 million passengers in 2015 and is one of the world’s leading air transportation hubs. With service from 13 scheduled passenger airlines, Michigan’s largest airport offers more than 1,100 flights per day to and from more than 140 non-stop destinations on four
