WTS is an international organization dedicated to building the future of transportation through the global advancement of women. It has more than 5,000 members, both women and men, in chapters located in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

HNTB was selected for this award in part because of its commitment to diversity and the steps it takes to encourage women to seek careers in transportation and engineering. Approximately 30 percent of the professionals working in HNTB’s Chicago office are female. HNTB has been a supporter and industry partner of Transportation You, a mentoring program through WTS International and the U.S. Department of Transportation that offers girls a chance to learn more about careers in transportation.
“The WTS Greater Chicago chapter board consists of dedicated individuals striving to inspire and advance women in the transportation industry,” said Anne Marie Jensen, PE, HNTB and WTS Recognitions Committee co-chair. “We recognize the leaders in our industry and the outstanding men, women and organizations that carry out WTS’ vision and goals. In turn, leading this effort translates into motivating and encouraging people to engage in WTS and achieve the organization’s vision.”
Nationally, HNTB has more than 350 WTS members, including 15 female senior executives, and 30 of the firm’s employees are either current or former national- and chapter-level leaders.
“In 2015, HNTB executive management strengthened the firm’s support and involvement with WTS nationally realizing the significant contributions this organization makes to the transportation industry,” said Lisa Thompson, HNTB national director of toll client development and WTS International board member. “The energy and excitement by both women and men in our firm for WTS has increased exponentially in the last few years and we see the return on investment firm wide.”
