Laing O’Rourke has secured another major Defence project being confirmed as managing contractor for the Planning Phase of the Larrakeyah Redevelopment and HMAS Coonawarra Facilities to Support Naval Operations in the Northern Territory.

The $400 – $500 million project will look to plan, design and gain the necessary approvals for the upgrade to the current service infrastructure. This may include, subject to Government and Parliamentary approval, provision of working accommodation and other supporting infrastructure, including a wharf and a fuel installation that will enhance operations in the North in accordance with government direction.

Laing O’Rourke’s Region Director Stuart Crofts said the company was delighted to be partnering with the Department of Defence again on another major project.

“The contract was signed with the Department of Defence earlier this week, making our role official and signalling the start of work on the planning phase of the Managing Contractor Contract,” Mr Crofts said.

Laing O’Rourke is currently delivering two additional projects for Defence across Australia, enabling their Aviation capability – Battlefield Airlifter (BFA) and AIR 5428 Pilot Training Systems Facilities.

“This contract not only builds on our 30-plus years of Defence delivery experience, but also means we will be concurrently delivering Defence assets in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria and now the Northern Territory,” Stuart added.
